UManyano Lwe Jazz (ULJ) is an independent, artist-centred, and culturally driven institution.
We are building an innovative platform within South Africa’s live music and festival ecosystem,
dedicated to championing contemporary African jazz and its sub-genres.
ULJ offers a refreshing two-day festival where the conventional and the experimental sit side
by side, merging the vibrancy of large outdoor festivals with the intimacy that defines jazz
gatherings. Rooted in the spirit of umanyana, a Nguni word for “coming together”, ULJ fosters
continuity across generations of jazz musicians and listeners.
